Giving Back With Lilit's Makeup Studio

Lilit Caradanian is a Bigger Than Beauty™️. Last month, she and her talented team of makeup artists from Lilit’s Makeup Studio helped us bring joy to breast cancer thrivers from the Los Angeles-area.

The team kicked off the day with a glam session where all guests received makeovers along with empowering makeup application education.

After the makeovers, we enjoyed a delicious lunch courtesy of Vertigo Events. I was joined by guest speaker nutritionist Elissa Goodman, who shared important health advice for all women. A cancer thriver herself, Elissa explained how gratitude and a healthy diet aided in her healing process.

I had the opportunity to share how I discovered my mission in life after experiencing the loss of my friend Kristy, the inspiration behind Thrive Causemetics and our Bigger Than Beauty™️ movement.

From there, we turned the mic over to our inspiring group of breast cancer thrivers. Each woman had the opportunity to share her journey with the group. There were lots of tears, but it was incredible to watch a group of women begin the day as strangers and leave as sisters.

This event was a wonderful reminder that what we have created with Thrive is so much more than a beauty brand; it is a community of support and strength.

Thank you for helping make giving events like this possible through your purchases.

The Difference Between Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate

What is this so-called “hydration miracle” called hyaluronic acid that seems to be popping up in everyone’s favorite skincare products? Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring molecule (specifically a polysaccharide) found in skin, hair, eyes, joints and nerves that acts as a cushion to promote collagen and elastic, keeping us looking and feeling young! Why do we love it? Hyaluronic acid holds 1,000 times it’s weight in water, so it is literally a super magnet for moisture.

Along with proper sun protection, adequate skin hydration is crucial to combat the signs of aging, which is why hyaluronic acid, or it’s sister ingredient, sodium hyaluronate, is a must. The clinical data on this rock star ingredient’s benefit in skin care inspired us to include it in both our Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner and Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner.

What is the difference between hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate?

Sodium hyaluronate is a water-soluble salt form of hyaluronic acid created by scientists to increase stability and lessen the likelihood of oxidization. The two names (hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate) are used interchangeably in the beauty industry, but they do have their differences.

We choose to use sodium hyaluronate in our products because it is a smaller molecule, which allows it to more easily penetrate the skin. Our proprietary form of sodium hyaluronate is specifically engineered in our labs to have a low molecule weight for maximum bioavailability.

Why do we include it in our eyeliner and brow liner?

Sodium hyaluronate helps your skin and hair retain moisture while reducing trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). As we age, our eyelids lose elasticity and moisture sodium hyaluronate helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by “plumping up” the skin.

What does sodium hyaluronate look like?

Both hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate are created in a solution form that is primarily comprised of water before it is added to our formulas. Here’s what it looks like:

Stay tuned for more Thrive products incorporating the powerful benefits of sodium hyaluronate!

Bigger Than Beauty™️: Nalie Agustin Spotlight

Model, television host, and activist Nalie Agustin is a force to be reckoned with. At just 24 years old she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she used her illness as a platform to help other women and raise awareness for breast cancer. Nalie and her journey went viral, inspiring women all around the world to take their health into their own hands.

She believes her journey in life (before and AFTER cancer) is to be positive and inspire people to never give up. “Take your silver lining and paint it gold.” - Nalie Agustin

Nalie Agustin | Beauty With A Purpose | Breast Cancer Survivor + Thriver

- Tell us more about how your triumph over breast cancer has changed you.

I have always been the happy, sociable and extraverted girl who appreciated life even before cancer! Graduating with a degree in Communications, I had a passion to perform and express myself in various ways. I knew I wanted to be in the public eye, I just never really knew why! Since my diagnosis, my reason has become so clear to me. I now know that I have a gift to inspire. I still want fame, I still want power, but only because I want to use it to help as many people as possible! Having cancer helped me find my purpose. It put life into perspective in a way where the little things that used to bother me don’t even phase me because I’m too preoccupied focusing on what I love. Cancer made me realize that life is too short to not do what you love! Now I want people to realize that, without having to go through cancer!

- You are taking over the world! Describe to us "a day in the life of Nalie”.

Oh wow… Let’s just say that every day is different! And I love it! Looking back at the past month, I’ve participated in numerous projects—from doing photo shoots to hosting events as a TV host for a local show called "What’s Up Montreal!”f i’m not hosting events, a typical day would be to wake up, read a chapter of my book while eating breakfast, answer my emails and then start in on my extremely long to-do list! It can include writing a blog post, my e-guides, a chapter in my book, or a speech if I’m booked for an event! Or it can include editing a video, promoting my #FeelitontheFirst campaign,  re-vamping my website (can’t wait to share the new nalie.ca with you) or shipping products from my store. Nevertheless, I always try to fit in a workout every day.  No matter how busy I get, I reserve time to answer every single email & comment from my readers & viewers and of course, spend some quality time with my loved ones.

- If you could give a fellow Thriver any advice, what would it be?

My best advice is to take things day by day and to trust that everything will be ok!  Also, don’t be scared to ask for help!

- Who inspires you to thrive?

My sisters, my angels! In order words, every single woman who has taken the time to share their story with me and tell me how much I’ve inspired them. They are my constant reminder and motivation to keep working hard at everything I do. Most of all, my family, friends and boyfriend who believe in me so much and support my dreams. Because of them, I know I am blessed, and that’s the only reason why I am able to share my blessings with others.

- What is your ultimate dream or are you living it now?

I don’t have ONE dream. I have several! And if you follow me on social media (@nalieagustin), whenever I accomplish one of them, I’ll post a picture of it with the caption of a checkmark off of my bucket list. But I guess the ultimate dream is to be alive and healthy for many years to come, so that I can continue to make a huge impact in this world in my very own special way. I want to make a living out of doing what I love. Nothing less, nothing more.

Who gets the other pair of Thrive Faux Lashes, Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner, Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner or Infinity Waterproof Adhesive when you buy one? Amazing thrivers like Nalie. Thank you for being a part of our giving mission and helping women like Nalie feel beautiful in their time of need!

Faster, Foolproof False Eyelash Application!

If the edges of your false eyelashes always seem to pop up, use the brush on your Infinity Waterproof Lash Adhesive to tap and seal the lashes into place. In fact, this was one of the main reasons we created our eyelash adhesive with a brush—we were inspired by the precise application you can achieve with a liquid eyeliner brush and knew that a similar design would simplify the false eyelash application process.

  1. Use the brush-on applicator to apply Infinity Waterproof Lash Adhesive to your favorite set of Thrive Causemetics Faux Lashes.
  2. Apply falsies at an angle to the base of your natural lash line, pressing down starting from the inner corner of your eye working outward.
  3. Use the brush again to apply another light coat of lash glue to the top of your lash-line. Hold eyes closed for 15-30 seconds to avoid transfer of lash glue from your lash-line to your eyelid.

Since the eyelash glue dries clear, this tip can be one of your best kept beauty secrets!

If after sealing the lashes with your second coat you still find that the inner or outer corner of your fake eyelashes are popping up, press and hold the falsies down using the brush on your lash glue for a few seconds.

Hot Off The Catwalk: Thrive On The Runway

As a makeup artist, I’ve seen it all at New York Fashion Week: from barely there nudes to faux face piercings. Sometimes it’s hard to replicate the beauty looks you see on the runway for everyday wear.

This season, we created a working-girl-chic beauty look that you can easily recreate in five minutes or less.

Here’s what’s trending:

Bold Brows - Using our Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner, we sketched a soft outline to perfectly sculpt the eyebrows.

Pro Tip: We brushed the brows upward using our spoolie before applying eyebrow liner to give the eyes a more editorial and natural look.

See more expert eyebrow tips and tricks here.

Daytime Smoky Eye: We applied a wash of nude eyeshadow to the entire eyelid and added a little drama by applying Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner at a flat angle along the upper and lower lash lines. Starting at the inner corner of eye and working outward, we created a bold, thick line and blended using the smudge tip for smoldering color.

And of course, no runway beauty routine would be complete without a fabulous pair of false eyelashes! We used our best-selling Jackie Lashes to polish the look.

Soft lips: To balance out the bold eye look, we swept a pale pink gloss onto the lips to keep the look polished and fresh for everyday wear.

Try these tips and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Thrive Causemetics was the mastermind behind Assembly New York's Ready-to-Wear beauty look. To compliment designer Greg Armas’ classic, pared-back style, Thrive’s Glam Squad created a bold brow and eye, neutral lip and center-parted, tousled hair. Models wore Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner, Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner and Jackie Lashes.
